"Americanized Christian" ideas (from a Biblical standpoint)?

How does it make you feel when, in songs or in everyday conversation, people make references that deceased humans are in heaven as angels? Or, when we die, we will become an angel and "get our wings"? Although this is a sweet thought, it is innaccurate. Obviously there are people who do not believe in the credibility of the Bible, so I am not talking to them, but, to those who do, can't you see this image as just another that people, especially "Americanized Christians" cling to for feeling "better" about the death of not only their loved ones, but their own eventual death, even though it is a false belief? Can anyone else think of other "Americanized Christian" ideas that people tend to believe is true, although there is no Biblical reference for that belief? (I say Americanized, although it could be any country, because I am from the United States...just speaking from my own personal experiences as an American.)
